The game opens in Japan in the year 1582, during the Sengoku period, a time of political instability and warlords fighting for power. The demonic Genma army, led by the resurrected evil warlord Oda Nobunaga, once again threatens to engulf the world in darkness.

You play as two main characters:

1. Samanosuke Akechi, the returning hero from the first Onimusha game.
2. Jacques Blanc, a French elite soldier from the year 2004, played and motion-captured by actor Jean Reno.

After a Genma experiment goes wrong, a rift in time is created, causing Samanosuke to be transported to modern-day Paris, and Jacques to be sent back to feudal Japan. Their missions now intertwine through time:

• Samanosuke must fight Genma in the modern world to stop their spread in the future.
• Jacques, trapped in the past, must survive and adapt to ancient Japan, learning the ways of the Oni and helping to halt Nobunaga’s conquest.

As their timelines overlap, they must communicate through magical time portals, solving puzzles and assisting each other across time to ultimately defeat the Genma threat and close the rift between eras.
