Introduction

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is a 3D action-adventure beat ’em up game developed and published by Midway Games, released for the PlayStation 2 in September 2005.

Unlike the traditional 1-on-1 fighting style that the Mortal Kombat series is known for, this title focuses on cooperative and single-player action gameplay, blending martial arts combat, exploration, puzzles, and brutal finishing moves into a cinematic experience.

Story Overview

The story begins immediately after the first Mortal Kombat tournament, where Liu Kang has just defeated Shang Tsung to save Earthrealm.

But instead of retreating, Shang Tsung unleashes chaos, summoning Outworld warriors to attack the Earthrealm fighters at the Wu Shi Academy.

Amid the ambush, Liu Kang and Kung Lao join forces to fight back. In the confusion, Shang Tsung escapes through a portal to Outworld, with Raiden, the Thunder God, urging the warriors to pursue him. Thus begins a new journey that will take the Shaolin monks far beyond Earth.
