Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is a stealth-action game developed by Konami and directed by Hideo Kojima.

Released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2, it is the fourth game in the Metal Gear series and the direct sequel to Metal Gear Solid (1998).

The game is split into two major chapters: the Tanker and the Plant missions.

In the Tanker chapter, players control Solid Snake, investigating a new Metal Gear being transported by the U.S. Marines. Things go wrong when the ship is hijacked by the rogue Russian military group led by Revolver Ocelot.

The Plant chapter shifts focus to a new protagonist, Raiden, a FOXHOUND operative sent to rescue hostages from the Big Shell, an offshore cleanup facility seized by terrorists calling themselves the “Sons of Liberty.” As the mission unfolds, Raiden uncovers layers of conspiracy involving AI control, manipulation of information, and the legacy of Metal Gear.
