The game is loosely based on The Tale of the Heike, a famous Japanese historical epic from the 12th century. You play in a war-torn era of feudal Japan, during the Genpei War between the Taira (Heike) and Minamoto (Genji) clans.

The main protagonist is Minamoto Yoshitsune, a legendary samurai warrior who is destined to restore the honor of the Genji clan. After surviving a massacre by the rival Heike clan, Yoshitsune embarks on a journey of vengeance and justice. Along the way, he discovers Amahagane, mystical stones that grant divine powers to those deemed worthy. These stones allow the use of “Kamui,” a powerful special attack that slows down time and enables devastating combos.

Another key character is Benkei, a warrior monk who is both a companion and a playable character. His brute strength complements Yoshitsune’s speed and finesse, allowing players to switch between characters depending on the situation.
